Basil Cream Cheese Spread

Fresh basil tastes like summer. Do you agree? :)

Tomatoes, watermelon, fresh green beans, and fried okra also taste like summer to me, but the basil taste is special. It’s so pungent and delicious and adds such a savory, distinct flavor to a dish. Long live fresh basil! :)

So I dropped some into my little food processor along with some cream cheese and had a delicious spread for my pita chips. Topped with fresh tomatoes from the farmers market, that lunch was tastier than many I’ve had recently!

If you’d like to whip up your own fresh basil spread, here are the amounts I used. It would make a great appetizer, but be aware that the basil will start to brown after a little while. Make it just before serving, and don’t let it sit out all night or anything.


Basil Cream Cheese Spread


  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 3 oz cream cheese


  1. Combine basil and cream cheese in mini-food processor.
  2. Process until combined.
  3. Serve with pita chips or homemade croutons and top with fresh tomatoes.
