Last week I left you with a cardboard construction and a promise of an attempted spray-paint job.
I’m happy to report that my cardboard is now black, and none of my clothes or shoes have black paint spatters on them. Woo hoo!
I can’t say I came up with any grand tips or tricks for a successful spray-paint, but I will say that if the wind is blowing, you should check it’s direction and then spray with the wind instead of against it.
I took my artwork outside, placed it on a piece of newspaper, and went to town.
Make sure you flip it over freqently, and rotate it so that all the cardboard gets covered with the paint. I let it dry for about 15 minutes between coats.
It had some frayed edges because I didn’t use the greatest scissors for cutting some of the tubes. I trimmed a lot of it off, but next time I’ll make sure I use sharp scissors in the first place.
And here’s the final result:
Now I just need to collect a few more paper tubes so I can make another one–or two, or three…
And then to find the perfect spot on the wall for them. That may be easier said than done. I think I want to put them everywhere! :)
So, you experienced spray-painters, what’s your best spray-painting tip for a newbie?

Diana, This blog is really cool! Good job! :) The Wall art looks really professional. I’ll have to remember this idea. :)
Thanks, Kaylene!
This. Looks. Awesome. I so hear you about nothing being in your price range – it’s the same for us!!
Spray painting tips?? I’m not the best, but my husband recently told me about a handle-type-thing that fits over the top of the spray paint can that turns it into a trigger-type spray instead of the push-button spray. I get finger-cramps from pushing that button! Haha!
Oh, now that sounds like it would be useful!
